As reliance on an oil-based economy continues to decrease to almost minimal levels, Dubai’s drive towards sustainable energy and green technology is among the most ambitious in the world. Policy-inspired incentives, Government investment and an influx of international expertise present unlimited opportunities in what is still a relatively untapped and highly lucrative market.

The global call for nations to decrease their carbon footprint and pioneer new technology to reduce, reuse and recycle opens the door for a new generation of enterprises and a field of research and development unparalleled in recent history.

Dubai is a leading light in the race to a more sustainable future, including a ‘green building code’, heavy investment in solar technology, and water and electricity initiatives to maximize resources and minimize waste.

In January 2012, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched a long term environmental initiative, ‘A Green Economy for Sustainable Development’.

This unique vision aims to position the UAE as a world leader in sustainability, and will see Dubai not only adopt radical new environmental policies, but also play a pivotal role in the export and re-export of green products and technologies.

A wide range of sectors from energy and real estate to agriculture and transport will all be heavily influenced by Dubai’s ‘Green Economy’ ambitions, once again making the Emirate the perfect investment ground for foreign companies with equally ambitious expansion or start up plans. Dubai’s Green Technology sector will see one of the city’s most rapid rates of growth.
